Seattle’s Maren Bisson Achieves Coeur D’Alene Ironman Personal Best

Seattle, Wash., July 24, 2012 — Maren Bisson, PT, MPT Clinic Director of Therapeutic Associates Madison Park Physical Therapy, crossed the finish line in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho on June 24 achieving a new personal record with a time of twelve hours and four minutes at the Coeur D’Alene Ironman Competition.  Maren shared the challenging course, made up of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run, with over 2,000 race participants.

Physical fitness has always been important to Maren.  Since her days on the basketball team at the University of Mary in Bismarck N.D., she now has 3 Ironman triathlons and 18 marathons under her belt.  Her innate interest in physiology has led to a successful career in physical therapy where she treats patients every day at Madison Park PT, ranging from those recovering from injuries to elite athletes like herself.  As a physical therapist, she enjoys encouraging all levels of ability to reach their wellness and fitness goals.

Maren decided to take on the challenge of the Coeur D’Alene Ironman after being a spectator at a previous year’s race where she was overwhelmed by the energy and excitement of the competition and crowd participation.  Having competed in Ironman races in Canada and Mexico, she also appreciated that this race was local.  As a musculoskeletal expert, Maren crafted her own personal training plan and after six long months of intense workouts of swimming, running, and bicycling multiple times each week, she was ready for race day.

While pushing herself to new physical heights on the race course, she repeated the mantras “Stay cool, stay happy” and “If this were easy, everyone would be doing it” while also being thankful for her health.  Her wide support network of family and friends cheering for her along the course, along with Gatorade, Gu, Coca-Cola, bites of a peanut butter banana sandwich, and her cross necklace for good luck, fueled her enthusiasm.  Maren’s recent Ironman accomplishment and humble down-to-earth demeanor regarding this admirable feat can serve as motivation to us all to set goals, stick with them, and dedicate the time and effort to reach them.  To round out her summer, Maren plans to participate in a small triathlon before some well-earned relaxation time.  Shortly thereafter, she will jump back into training to complete her next Ironman adventure!

Maren and her team at Therapeutic Associates Madison Park PT look forward to continuing to strengthen their partnership with the Seattle community and helping patients reach goals along their journey to health and wellness.

Congratulations Maren!
