“Tennis elbow” is more common among golfers than “golfer’s elbow”. Why is that? It has a lot to do with the lower body but we’ll get to that later. First let’s find out what it is, how to figure out if you have it, why it can occur and then what to do about it.
Tennis elbow or lateral epicondylitis as it is commonly known in the medical field is an overuse syndrome caused by repetitive strain to the forearm muscles that bend your wrist backward or “cup” your wrist. All of these muscles ...

Mysterious condition is treatable with time, physical therapy
By Anne Aurand / article from The Bulletin in Bend, OR
Last fall, Kathi Prestwood strained her arm and shoulder when she lifted a box improperly. She didn't think too much about it or go see a doctor. She assumed it would heal if she took it easy.
But the pain in her shoulder grew and it became immobile. She couldn't reach into the back of her car. The pain kept her awake all night. She was eating the painkiller Aleve like candy, she said.
By mid-February, she decided something was really wrong and went to ...

From leisurely canoeing on Hosmer Lake to kayaking in class IV whitewater on the Lower Deschutes, Central Oregon is truly a paddler’s paradise. Canoeing and kayaking are outdoor activities that can be enjoyed by individuals of all ages and fitness levels. However, without the proper technique and equipment paddling can oftentimes lead to overuse injuries that can keep you stuck on the shore. Instruction in proper paddling mechanics and pre-season conditioning can decrease the risk of many common paddling injuries and maximize your time on the water.

With retirement came the dream of playing lots of golf. A bad fall on the ice, however, totally shattered that dream. It’s been seven years since I had fusion surgery in my back. Surgery allowed my spinal cord to decompress, and in that sense it was successful. After about 3 months, however, chronic pain developed throughout my entire back that at times has been excruciating. Determined to find a solution , I sought treatment from just about every medical discipline and alternative medicine throughout the northwest. I even had eastern medicine treatment while visiting China. Only medication provided modest relief.
About a year ago, my pain management physician referred me to Chris Cooper. While physical therapy was a part of my 6 year search, Cooper was certified with specialty training for golf injuries. While my injury did not occur while playing golf, he immediately diagnosed my condition as treatable. At the same time, he rekindled my dream of playing golf again. In a nutshell, his physical therapy treatment and at home exercise program has made a huge difference. While the pain isn’t totally absent, suffice to say I have enough relief to play 18 holes of golf, sometimes twice a week.
Thanks, Chris Cooper, for your profound treatment and work with my condition.

The long-awaited moment had finally arrived…I was about to attend my first yoga class, EVER, at age 56! This was something I had wanted to do all of my life. Multiple pain-management doctors had been recommending this particular form of exercise for years. My doctors had all concurred; the current medical studies/data pointed to yoga being the best solution for chronic pain.
Kat, the instructor, greeted me so warmly. (I found out, we came from the same hometown, for heavens sake!) Her words encouraged me, her instruction was clear. Kat’s explanations were articulate; with humor & transparency thrown in. Laura, the Physical Therapist, was on hand to gently ‘tweak’ my positions, or provide solutions, tailor-made to my physical ‘issues.’ The session ended with deep, relaxation on many levels; aromatherapy, music, blankets & a light massage. (Only if desired) I left feeling as though I was ‘floating on a cloud!’
I would HIGHLY recommend the therapeutic yoga class to ANYONE with trauma, injuries or on-going pain.
For more than 10 years, spinal disorders—primarily scoliosis and stenosis, later complicated by Parkinson’s—have subjected me to surgical procedures, an increasingly complex medication regimen, chiropractic, osteopathy, and acupuncture, all yielding little or no observable relief. Meantime, a rigorous physical training program, designed and monitored by Therapeutic Associates, Inc., at the Athletic Club of Bend has enabled me to retain and improve muscular strength, balance and range of motion. Occasional acute pain episodes have been relieved by stretch and massage protocols.
Overall, what’s most impressive is the degree to which Laura Cooper and her exceptionally well-trained TAI staff always craft and adjust their treatment programs to fit the individual patient’s changing needs, often while coordinating with one or more prescribing physicians.
Anyone whose condition may be responsive to professional-level physical therapy could not, in my judgment, find a care provider to equal Therapeutic Associates, Inc., at the Athletic Club of Bend.

Matt recently helped my 12 year old son, Riley, with an overuse injury in his arm/elbow. He was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. What impressed me most was how he treated Riley. He really focused on Riley and treated him like a person (vs. the doctors who only talk to the parents). Riley really liked Matt, so it made PT really easy, enjoyable and effective.
I know companies usually only hear the complaints, so I wanted to be sure to pass along how impressed Riley and I were with Matt. What a great asset for Therapeutic Associates to have him.
Best regards,
Katy Boos
Chris Cooper has been my physical therapist for 10 years. He has helped me with various joint issues related to arthritis. I appreciate Chris’ low key approach. He listens then tells me what we are going to do and why. I like the take-home sheets that describe all the exercises. They help remind me what to do at home and are useful for future “tune-ups”.Most important-I trust Chris. He has never failed to help me. Thank you. Diane Crupi
I recently had back surgury and after 6-8 weeks I decided to get physical therapy to help progreess the healing process. By the time I saw Craig Boswell I could hardly walk, couldn’t sit and was still in a lot of pain. Four weeks later after pool and hands-on therapy, I am 100% better. He was so focused on my recovery and helped me mentally as well as physically. He’s wonderful and I am very, very grateful to him. Sincerely, Marlene Boynton
Last year I was in a horrible motor vehicle accident. The driver ran a stop sign and hit me at a high rate of speed.
I was left with severe whiplash and a sprained colar bone. The pain was excrusiating, my range of motion was little to none. I saw my doctor and he sent me to see Laura Cooper at Therapeutic Associates. Being that Im a very active person I wanted nothing more than to get back to living my normal life. Laura was more than I can ask for! She was very professional, knowledgeable and after only 3 months I was back to most of my normal activities. She and her staff were just amazing! They treated me with gentle and individualized care and made me feel like more than just another patient. Needless to say I am now fully recocvered and back to my busy lifestyle. I would strongly recommend Laura and Therapeutic Associates anytime! Thank you from the bottom of my heart…thank you for being not just my doctor but also a a beautiful person and a friend!
