What is an AMS?

This Athletic Movement & Injury Prevention Screen (AMS) was designed by sports physical therapists utilizing the most advanced research data available. It is a comprehensive screen using functional movement tests to provide an understanding of the athlete’s strengths and weaknesses. Injury rates are increasing in youth sports and the cost of an injury can go far beyond the financial consequences. Our AMS is unique and one of the most comprehensive functional sports tests available because it evaluates strength, flexibility, and movement mechanics of the spine, shoulder, hips, knees, and ankles. The athletes’ results and score can be provided to coaches, trainers, doctors, and/or whoever the athlete/parent would like the information be sent.

The information obtained from the AMS can be used to:

• Help guide training and improve performance by addressing weaknesses
• Determine the likelihood of having a non-contact knee/ankle injury
• Identify movement mechanics that may lead to an injury or effect performance
• Identify joint impairments in the spine, shoulder, hips, knees and ankles
• Determine physical safety of participation in sports

We recommend that every person participating in sports should have the AMS done at least one time per year. Important times to be screened include:

• Before the training season for a sport
• Early in the summer or in the off season
• At times of growth spurts/puberty
• When transitioning to high school/varsity/college/higher level sports
• After an injury or surgery
