Physiologic Testing
Sound physiologic testing is the foundation of any scientifically based training program. By testing athletes in the PACE physiology lab a clear base line to set up accurate training zones for heart rate and speed or power based training programs for runners and cyclists can be established.
Assessing ones lactate threshold and Vo2 max is valuable in defining the appropriate training zones for all endurance athletes. Determination of the Vo2 max identifies an athlete’s potential. Evaluation of the lactate threshold identifies the efficiency an endurance athlete exhibits in their sport.
At PACE we employ advanced protocols for determining the biological strengths and limits to an athlete in an effort to maximize their training program. By adhering to ACSM clinical exercise testing procedures we offer a safe, comprehensive testing experience. Experienced exercise physiologists utilizing the protocol most appropriate to the athlete’s goals and activity ensure a comprehensive intake, testing and review for each performance test.
Testing at PACE is an effective, simple and scientific way to help you determine your current level of fitness and design the most effective training program to help you meet and exceed your goals.
What Performance testing at PACE will provide for runners, cyclists and multi-sport athletes:
- Determination of maximal oxygen consumption (Vo2max), aerobic, anaerobic and lactate thresholds
- Heart rate training zones for all critical training intensities
- Power (cycling) and Speed (running) at all critical training intensities.
- Efficiency at aerobic, anaerobic and lactate thresholds
- Metabolic cost of exercise at all critical training intensities
- Substrate utilization (fat v CHO) at critical training intensities
What You Receive:
- A detailed and easy to understand description of test results
- Power (cycling) or Speed (running) & heart rate training zones
- Graphs of your test results
- Suggestions to improve fitness
- Discounts on future tests & services
Field Testing
In addition to testing your LT and Vo2 in the lab, PACE offers field tests that will determine these on the track or road (‘field’). Field testing is a practical and highly applicable testing method for experienced and recreational athletes alike. Testing in the field can provide insights into the contributing factors in efficiency and sub-maximal exercise.
Combining an introductory lab test with ongoing lab and/or field testing will maximize the time available for an athlete to train by highlighting the change in their strengths and weaknesses.
