Valley Physical Therapy – South
About the Clinic
At Therapeutic Associates Valley Physical Therapy South, we take pride in the QUALITY of physical therapy we offer. Our team of experts includes four highly trained physical therapists to support your overall health and wellness. You will find that every visit is with one of our skilled physical therapists who will make getting to the root of what is causing your problem their priority.
We believe that communication is very important. During your visit with your physical therapist, you will be listened to and will have the opportunity to not only learn about your diagnosis, but you will learn what to do in order to speed your healing and PREVENT reoccurrence of the same problem. We specialize in treating difficult and chronic cases that may not have improved with previous therapies.
Services include manual therapy (including spinal manipulation), ASTYM™, post-surgical rehab, spinal rehab, biomechanical assessments of running and sports injuries, personal training, orthopedic physical therapy, strengthening and conditioning therapy, treatment of arthritis, neck and back care, treatment of chronic pain, women’s health, myofascial therapy, sports therapy, osteoporosis treatment, work conditioning, on-site ergonomic evaluation, post-motor vehicle accident treatment, and advanced balance training. All of these services and more are offered in our brand new state-of-the-art clinic where you will enjoy large private treatment rooms with plenty of peace and quiet, beautiful views from our gym, brand new exercise equipment, and a healing atmosphere complimented by an on-site massage therapist.
We are also proud to announce the first residency trained physical therapist in the city of Salem! Josiah Faville has just recently completed his residency in advanced orthopedic care which has better prepared him to work with even more complicated cases. We currently have other therapists who are enrolled in this advanced training at this time. Our motivation to pursue exceptional orthopedic training is to be able to offer the BEST physical therapy possible and to be able to assist our patients in the return to their chosen activities as quickly as possible. Spring is upon us once again in the Pacific Northwest and as the days lengthen and the sun steals its way through the clouds, those of us with the hiking bug start to itch. Usually we succeed at easing our body back into shape, but every once in a while our excitement and the effects of a relatively sedentary winter get the best of us and we hinder our season with an early and unfortunate injury.
To prevent the occurrence of these nagging little pains, especially if your winter ...

Has anyone out there ever suffered with a groin pull? It is not a very fun injury to deal with and these can be fairly tricky to rehabilitate. But there are injuries that occur in this general region that you might think is a pulled groin muscle or a tight hip flexor muscle but it is something entirely different.
I recently saw someone today who came to see me with a “groin injury”. She had been living with it for 2 years and had been treating it as a muscle problem. She assumed it was a problem with her groin muscle ...

A new year often renews motivation for improving your overall health. It tends to be that resolution that never gets erased off the list and can be a never ending battle. Whether your goals are to lose weight, find an outlet for stress, promote better sleep or increase your energy level, exercise can help. So why isn’t everybody doing it?
I did a little research on-line to find the top reasons many of us use to not exercise. I’m going to discuss three that physical therapy can address:
You don’t know how to exercise – I bet you also didn’t know that ...

Did you know that PTs can be trained to treat TMD (temporomandibular joint dysfunction)? This is one of the dysfunctions that we treat here at Valley Physical Therapy South. Last week Jeff Blanchard gave a lecture to a study group of local dental hygienists. Topics covered included diagnosis and treatment of TMD as well as what hygienists might do in their jobs to decrease stress on their bodies. If you or someone you know has jaw symptoms, headaches, and pain with eating or talking, give us a call. We will be able to work together with your dentist to help ...

My Physical Therapist Helped me Get Here!
After a few months as a “new” masters swimmer, I developed increasingly severe shoulder pain. I needed to get better, but didn’t want to quit swimming. Josiah was fantastic in not only helping me rehabilitate, but encouraging me to swim without re-injury. My previous experiences with physical therapy were so different than I received with Josiah. Not only did he not hurt me during therapy, but after each session I could feel the improvement. Thank you Josiah for helping this old, new athlete remain active and in the water.
Turning 40 was a bit like a kick in the behind! Gradually I found myself less able to exercise and do my regular activities without experiencing pain. I began seeing Josiah to help me get past some pain that was keeping me from running. He accessed where my weaknesses were and we set out to strengthen them. The exercises I was given were very specific to my needs and they made a big difference! I am now returning to running! I am also returning to Josiah to systematically go through my other complaint areas. I have been working through wrist pain that seemed to flare when I lifted weights and back/neck pain that has been a reoccurring issue for me. With each of these issues, Josiah has patiently instructed me on strengthening exercises, management techniques and how to avoid re-injury. I may not have a choice about getting older, but I do have a choice in how to handle the problems that may arise with age. I’m thankful to Josiah for helping me and teaching me so I can get & stay active and be pain-free again!
