The Lunchtime Workout Revolution

According to the Surgeon General’s 2010 Vision for a Healthy and Fit Nation, adults should do at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity per week. Most Americas do not meet this standard. Why? The most common response is lack of time. One way to find time is to schedule a lunchtime workout. No requirements to get up early, and no staying late at the gym with your family waiting at home. With an hour lunch break that gives plenty of time to work out and reap all the benefits exercise has to offer.

There are many benefits to the lunchtime workout including improved energy throughout the remainder of your day. Exercise is shown to increase energy levels and awareness, so say goodbye to the mid afternoon slump! Other benefits include improved mood, better sleep, and of course, better weight management. Imagine how productive you or your employees may become in the afternoons!

So how do you get into the habit of a lunchtime workout? Try to keep a pair of athletic shoes and a set of workout clothes at work. That way you can take advantage of any extra time you have, even if you didn’t expect it. Also, try scheduling in the workouts. There’s nothing like your computer or PDA reminding you to exercise. Finally, take advantage of your surroundings. Research the local fitness facilities to see who is offering lunch classes. Use the building stairs to complete cardio and strengthening exercises, or a can of soup for extra weight with UE exercises. And remember, even if you don’t have the time to complete a full workout a walk is better than nothing. Get Moving.
