Static Stretching Vs. Dynamic Warm-up

Static Stretch: A stretch performed with a prolonged hold and is used to increase the length of soft tissue or the flexibility of a specific muscle.

Self-Test for Muscle Imbalance

Athletes are more susceptible to injuries when one muscle group is tighter than its opposing group. There are three muscle groups that are most likely to cause problems and be too tight. The three muscle groups are the hip flexors, the hamstrings, and the calves (includes Achilles tendon).
There are a series of self tests that can tell the athlete if they are too tight in that particular area, and how to stretch that muscle group. The stretches given below are just some examples; there are other stretches that can be used. Read more…
