Two years ago, physical therapist Chris Cooper treated a somewhat unusual patient. The 51-year-old man had been playing basketball and turned his ankle. Cooper had certainly seen sprained ankles before. But what made this case unique was that the patient had not been referred by a doctor. He made the appointment for physical therapy on his own.

Over this past weekend, Chris Cooper PT, DPT, CSCS, traveled to Oceanside, CA to receive his Level 2 TPI Medical Professional training. We are excited to announce that Chris passed his certification!
The Medical Professional track is focused on teaching the skills needed to run an effective golf-specific medical or rehabilitative program. The Level 2 class focuses on golf-specific injuries and injury inducing swing mechanics, advanced swing faults, wrist and ankle physical screening procedures, and learning our detailed medical evaluation called the "SFMA" - Selective Functional Movement Assessment.

Tennis is a dynamic physical sport requiring hand-eye coordination and full body activity in order to run, position, swing, and hit. Because of these demands, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, balance and extremity and core muscle-conditioning exercises are important to prevent injuries. Most injuries can be minimized or prevented entirely by proper conditioning, proper technique, appropriate equipment, and seeking timely medical attention for chronic nagging pains or acutely painful conditions.
The most regular occurring injuries associated with tennis are rotator cuff tendonitis, lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), wrist strains, back pain, patellar knee pain, calf and Achilles tendon injuries and ankle sprains.
