Tips for Winter Health and Safety


As winter weather appears and disappears in Central Oregon, it's helpful to have a set of best practices to prevent injury and illness from putting a damper on winter fun. The following is a few ideas that I have picked up over the years from coaches, done a little research on, and put into practice: -For those who chose to maintain their running fitness outside, instead of a treadmill, choose safe   routes and be aware of changing conditions between sun and shaded areas. Winter Conditioning Class


Description Jason Tedrow's Winter Conditioning Class begins on Monday evenings starting January 9th at 5:45pm. The themes are agility, power, coordination, core strength, and circuit training for all winter sports. When Mondays beginning, January 9, 2012 at 5:45pm until Monday, February 13, 2012 at 7:00pm Where Therapeutic Associates Bend Physical Therapy at The Center 2200 NE Neff Rd, Suite 202 Cost $30 for all 6 Monday evening sessions payable at the 1st class. Pre-season Ski Conditioning Class – Begins Oct. 11th

Get ready for the skiing and snowboarding season while preventing injury! Beginning in October, Bend Physical Therapy will be offering a pre-season ski conditioning class to help you prepare for the upcoming season. This class is developed and will be taught by licensed physical therapists and focus on sport specific strengthening, balance/proprioceptive training and core training. A 6 week preconditioning program developed and instructed by a physical therapist. Learn proper knee alignment through training and functional balance. Understand the role of core strength during snow sports. Learn a stretching and strengthening program to stay injury-free throughout the season. Fall Conditioning Helps Prevent Winter Falls on the Slopes

Last year we saw a large number of ACL reconstructions during the winter ski season at our physical therapy clinic. I blame this on two factors. For one, we experienced early and persistent firm conditions that caused people to ski fast, lose control, and land hard. Secondly, people didn’t participate in a pre-season conditioning program and were therefore unprepared for these conditions and the normal demands of skiing.
