A culture of learning: TAI’s commitment to growth
At Therapeutic Associates Physical Therapy (TAI), you will commonly hear the phrase, “we support a culture of learning.” Whether it be an email from the CEO, through discussion with someone on the education team, or during a staff meeting with your clinic director, it is inevitable that you will hear those words.
Learning is a core value at this company, where we strive to be “more.” We wish to be better teammates and providers, which supports our needs as clinicians and increases our care for our patients.
Though this characteristic would seem to be the norm in today’s health care arena, I have seldom come across another organization that holds to this principle so thoroughly. I hope to show you just how much “more” you can be with the culture and partnership that TAI offers as part of its identity.
The cohort program: building connections and skills
As part of TAI’s education department, I have first-hand experience in seeing the support and development that is available to anyone who desires it. Yes, it takes hard work for the individual, but demanding work is best experienced in partnership as compared to isolation.
Here at TAI, you will immediately experience that partnership through our Cohort program. Cohort offers the chance to connect newly hired providers with their peers across the company.
This takes the form of quarterly in-person meetings, where professional practice seminars and continuing education courses are interrupted by outings to Top Golf and other fun endeavors. As they say, work hard to play hard after all.
Setting an orthopedic standard at TAI
These quarterly connections not only provide an opportunity for networking and team building, but also clearly demonstrate our commitment to learning by attaching each meeting to a continuing education course that develops orthopedic standards by all physical therapists in the company. This sets up the basis for our Orthopedic Standard at TAI.
It is an expectation and a commitment to our providers, that every clinician will complete a proven and advanced orthopedic curriculum within two years of joining the company. This is not only unique, but unheard of in our field. Here at TAI, clinicians can attain a level of certification — with both scheduling and financial support — that numerous physical therapists will never complete in their entire careers.
Mentorship: empowering every clinician’s journey
Along with a commitment to an orthopedic standard, which serves as a foundation-building platform for each physical therapist’s reasoning skills, we strongly believe in mentorship. At TAI, each clinician is given a guaranteed block of 48 hours of mentorship. That equates to four days of mentorship for those paying attention!
Mentorship is more than an on-going learning experience that we all had in school. Mentorship is the collaboration with an experienced and proven PT that wishes nothing more than to encourage you and guide you in becoming your best.
Gone are the days of being lectured, now replaced with personalized discussion, reflection, and equipping of manual skills in real-time.
In my personal experience, mentorship alone has had the greatest impact on my skill level, my satisfaction, and my effectiveness as a clinician.
I am confident that for those who see the mentorship experience for what it is, and take advantage of the opportunity, they will find exponential growth compared to experience alone.
In-house orthopedic residency: a path to certification
For those who truly wish to push themselves in the field of orthopedics, our company also offers an in-house orthopedic residency. Within two years of the program, a clinician can become a COMT certified PT, experience 150 hours of mentorship, and be well prepared to sit for the OCS exam and thereby become board certified in orthopedics. I’m not sure if you can tell by the way I am gushing about this option, but you will not find this opportunity very often with other companies. Among many attributes that define TAI, it is the opportunity for Residency that stands out and sets TAI apart in education.
TAI’s promise: growth for all clinicians
In conclusion, TAI offers opportunities for growth for all clinicians, whether they be a new-hire or a seasoned veteran. It provides a financial commitment from the start, that ensures each clinician can thrive in this field, grow in their skillset, and become the type of PT they envisioned when they started their journey at school. Through opportunities such as Cohort, Mentorship, and Orthopedic Residency, you can expect to be challenged and encouraged when you join us. We support a culture of learning here at TAI, where we believe growth as a clinician will benefit everyone involved.
