Gail Smith - La Pine Physical Therapy

Gail Smith, PT

Physical Therapist

“My approach is to work with the body rather than forcing change upon the body”

Gail was born in Anchorage, Alaska and raised in Eagle River, Alaska. For two summers prior to physical therapy school, Gail worked as a nursing assistant in a thermal unit treating burns and frostbite. She sought this experience in order to determine whether she could handle working with patients in that kind of pain. She learned she could, as long as there were measures that could be taken to minimize the suffering. That experience has influenced her entire physical therapy career.

After graduation from Pacific University’s Physical Therapy program in 1984, she returned to Alaska to work in a large out-patient physical therapy clinic. In 1987, she returned to Oregon and has been in private practice ever since, specializing in gentle manual therapies including orthobionomy, craniosacral therapy, myofascial release and mobilization with movement. Her passion is relieving pain and suffering.

Gail lives with her husband Jim, their two sons, two Labrador retrievers, and two cats south of Sunriver. She has enjoyed volunteering in her sons’ classrooms and enjoys supporting their athletics, including basketball, snowboarding and wakeboarding. The family also enjoys camping and fishing. The Three Rivers SMART reading program also receives her attention. She has been a member of a Sunriver Area Public Library group for a dozen years.
