Lisa Sullivan is a RN, Certified Health Coach, and Certified Food for Life Instructor. She decided to become a health coach after 24 years of practicing nursing and seeing the increase in obesity and chronic diseases in pediatric and adult populations. Healthcare focuses on symptom management with medications and invasive procedures as the treatment of choice, with less focus on nutrition and lifestyle management. A plant-based diet and active lifestyle, along with stress management can change the course of these chronic diseases and improve and/or eradicate them completely. Lisa is passionate about prevention and wants to share this with people who want to improve their health by losing weight, lowering their cholesterol, decreasing their need for diabetes medication, and ultimately feeling more energized and full of life…a healthy life.

Health and wellness are our most valuable assets. Over two years ago, Lisa and her husband had their annual physical and found out their cholesterol was well over 200 and triglycerides were above normal. This was after she completed three Ironman competitions, so exercise was not her limitation! After completing an eight-hour course called Enhancing Health with Plant-based Nutrition, Lisa and her husband decided to incorporate a plant-based diet into their daily lives, including fruits and vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds. She did her homework, and it took a month to really understand how to make the switch, but she did it and learned a lot through the process. After just six months they went back to their physician and found that her cholesterol dropped from 252 to 168 and her husband’s dropped from 212 to 149. Both of their triglycerides dropped 20 points. Lisa was astounded and convinced that she could help others improve their health with diet and lifestyle. And it can be done in a fun and tasteful way!

Ultimately, Lisa was energized. This method of eating cured her IBS and improved her allergies dramatically. Nutrient dense, whole foods are the key to unlocking a life of good health. Lisa is a Certified Food for Life Instructor and decided to add this very reputable certification to her resume because she truly believes in plant-based nutrition as ‘food for life’ for prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. She feels confident that this evidence-based program will provide her with the added skills and science backing to get her out into the community to teach this important message. Lisa began this journey in July 2014. She is available to teach classes in Portland, Oregon and any outlying areas in Oregon, as well and Vancouver, WA. Her favorite low-fat vegan recipe is the Tempeh Broccoli Saute’.
