Amy Benton received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Simmons College in Boston, MA and graduated with honors in 2008. Prior to this, she earned a BS in Psychology from Northeastern University in Boston, MA in 2005. Since graduation, she has been actively pursuing post-graduate training in her manual therapy skills and is a Certified Manual Therapist (CMPT) through the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT), a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and is certified in the ASTYM™ system for the treatment of repetitive stress/chronic overuse injuries.
Amy is a classically trained dancer and aerialist who has performed throughout New England and the Pacific Northwest for the last 15 years. She spent 3 years with Portland’s premier aerial company AWOL (Aerial without Limits) performing and training fellow dancers for peak performance. Amy is trained in Pilates and yoga and uses this knowledge in combination with her manual therapy techniques to provide holistic and comprehensive treatment to her patients.
She has special interests in sports medicine, post-surgical rehabilitation, pre/post-natal issues, spine injuries, and working with recreational to elite-level athletes to achieve their full potential. She currently works with The Portland Ballet and is a member of their board of directors.
In her free time, Amy enjoys rock climbing, aerial acrobatics, running, weight lifting, and hiking with her husband, son and daughter.
