Michelle received her B.S. degree in Dietetics and a B.S. degree in Kinesiology at Michigan State University. She then went on to complete her Master’s degree in Nutritional Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her dietetic internship at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics.
Before starting Active Nutrition LLC, Michelle’s graduate research focused on body composition and hydration measurements of collegiate-level athletes. Michelle presented lectures on sports nutrition for an introductory nutrition class and a high school cross country camp for several years. Upon completion of her degree, she interned with Athletes’ Performance, where amateur and professional athletes have individual nutrition plans developed based on body composition and performance goals.
As an athlete, Michelle competed in basketball, softball, volleyball, and track in high school and went on to compete in track and field and cross country at Michigan State University. There, she was a two-time All American, Big Ten Champion, three-time Academic All American, and in 2003 was awarded the George Alderton Female Athlete of the Year award. Michelle also represented Canada at 3 World Cross Country Championships.
Personally, Michelle enjoys staying active through running, cycling, swimming, and group exercise classes. She is married to 2008 US Olympian Matt Tegenkamp, who continues to compete in Track and Field. She enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time with her friends, family, and 2 dogs, Bosch and Bailey.
