We are excited to honor and congratulate the many Therapeutic Associates clinics throughout Oregon, Washington and Idaho that are celebrating milestone anniversaries in 2023! Therapeutic Associates Physical Therapy started as a one-clinic organization in Southern California in 1952 and celebrated our 70-year milestone anniversary last year. This year, our Boise State Street clinic marks 20 years of providing comprehensive, compassionate care to patients of all ages and abilities.

In his own words, clinic director Robert Barnes reflects on the clinic’s rich clinic history and considers what the next big milestone might bring.

What is one particularly memorable highlight from the clinic’s history?

“Moving to Boise, Idaho, and starting a clinic in a new market was one of the most challenging things Nicole and I have ever done. I remember the first week we had one patient with three visits. Now, 20 years later the clinic has grown to include 6 providers and we are treating up to 1,000 visits per month.

Our employees and community have always been our focus, and we have been involved in sponsoring countless races and teams including cycling, running, triathlon, Nordic and Alpine skiing, mountain biking, soccer, golf, volleyball, baseball, lacrosse, and even a Roller Derby team!

Boise has been a wonderful place for us and the clinic. I truly love running into patients in the lift lines while skiing, or mountain biking on our amazing foothill trail system. It drives my kids nuts, but catching up with patients while they are out doing their sport is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.

In the end, however, it all comes down to the team you work with. I am so lucky to be surrounded by amazing people who make coming to work fun and interesting. Many have gone on to run their own TAI clinics or take leadership positions in the CAD and education teams.

Some of the most memorable moments include pranking the interns and visiting mentors, my lead going on vacation and not returning, dumping the whole staff while white water rafting, out-of-hand Christmas parties, multiple staff pregnancies, barely finishing the bike bar tour, Stand-Up-Paddleboarding the Boise River, bubble soccer, and the multiple times my staff “decorated” my office.”

What is a goal you have for your clinic?

“One of our biggest goals in the next few years is remodeling to build a dedicated ‘Women’s Health Center.’

It has been a great 20 years and I look forward to the future of TAI Boise State Street. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of it!”
