Golf Fitness & Performance Program

TPI Golf Performance

Our TPI Golf Performance Program is unique, in that the Certified TPI Instructor is also a licensed physical therapist and avid golfer. This uniquely combined skill set offers unparalleled insight into the physical limitations affecting the golf swing. The physical therapist’s experience working in orthopedics and sports medicine, combined with the TPI program, will provide a comprehensive, golf-specific physical examination and a customized golf strength and flexibility program specific to the individual golfer’s needs.

Titleist Performance Institute

Titleist began a program in 1995 that documented the common features of the professional golf swing. They found that all golfers sequence their swing exactly the same across all skill levels, from backswing to follow through. Although styles differ, the sequencing remains constant. The results of this research led to the formation of the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) and the development of an evaluation method that measures all facets affecting performance, including strength, flexibility, neuromuscular control, joint mobility, balance, and power. What prevents the amateur golfer from playing like a pro is the breakdown of this sequence at some point during the swing. This is often caused by physical limitations that can be fixed with proper intervention. For instance, a weak “core” (abdomen and back) will prevent golfers from keeping the correct posture all the way through their swing, resulting in inconsistent ball striking. Benefits of participating in the TPI Program include an increase in range of motion, strength, flexibility, stability, and power. The program can also help improve balance and coordination, golf posture, and overall golf performance.

Golf Performance Evaluation

TPI’s revolutionary research on golf biomechanics and golf fitness over the years has resulted in a compilation of normative data on multiple body parts, which are vital to the golf swing. The physical examination, completed by the certified instructor, compares the client to the average measurements found on the PGA and LPGA tours. The examination assesses all physical factors affecting the golf swing to identify areas that may need to be improved in order to obtain an efficient golf swing. The evaluation will identify deficits so the instructor can compile an individualized golf performance and conditioning program to improve deficient areas.

Golf Performance Fitness Program

The Performance evaluation will lead to a personalized performance fitness program designed to address physical limitations as they relate to a golfer’s swing. This will maximize a golfer’s potential as well as correct and improve any physical limitations. Recognizing that setting aside several hours per day for golf fitness is unrealistic, taking steps in the right direction with whatever time is available will make a difference on the course.

Will insurance cover my Golf Performance Evaluation?

It is possible if you have pain while playing golf. We will need to do a physical therapy initial evaluation first to determine the medical necessity of the golf performance evaluation. If you are not currently injured or in pain, or do not have medical insurance, we offer cash pay rates. Please contact a participating clinic for details and appointment scheduling.
