Individualized Care to Decrease Symptoms

Lymphedema usually occurs as a result of cancer treatment, but it can also be a hereditary condition. When lymphatic vessels are damaged, lymph nodes are surgically removed, or lymphatic vessels are impaired or missing, lymphedema develops. Lymphedema is the abnormal accumulation of protein-rich fluid which causes swelling, most often affecting the arms or legs, and creates heaviness and aching in the affected area.

Although there is no cure for lymphedema, physical therapy can dramatically alleviate its symptoms and decrease its associated risk of infection and wounds. Our certified lymphedema physical therapists will work closely with you and your health care team to effectively manage your lymphedema through clinical treatment, education and instructions for home care. We can help you control swelling and meet your goals for getting back to the things you love.
