Pelvic Health Physical Therapy

Specialized Treatment for Individuals with Pelvic Floor Needs

Pelvic health physical therapy addresses the unique musculoskeletal problems of the pelvic floor that can have a significant impact on quality of life. The pelvic floor refers to a group of muscles that lie at the bottom of the pelvis. This “sling” of muscles attaches from your pubic bone to your tailbone. Unfortunately, like any muscle in the body, the pelvic floor muscles can be injured or have dysfunction, leading to pain, weakness and loss of function.
Physical therapy can provide structured, effective and safe reconditioning of pelvic floor muscles. Our professional and caring staff have specialized training to meet the unique needs of all individuals throughout their lifespan. Through education, manual therapy, biofeedback, and exercise we assist our patients in learning how to decrease and manage their symptoms. Our goal is to improve your function, decrease your pain, and guide you on your personal path to improved health and wellness.

What to Expect

At your first visit, a physical therapist trained in pelvic floor muscle dysfunction will perform an in-depth evaluation. This will include a general medical history, a history related to your current condition, and questions about your eating, drinking, and voiding habits. A physical assessment will also be performed to check the following:

Please note: An internal pelvic floor exam may be performed, with your consent and if the therapist feels it is appropriate.

Your physical therapist will work with you to develop an individualized treatment plan designed to address your symptoms and outline meaningful goals. Our goal is to have you leave your visit with a better understanding of the anatomy and function of the pelvic floor. We’ll explain why you are experiencing symptoms and equip you with a detailed plan of care and a personalized home exercise program to help you reach your goals.

Take the next step in your recovery.
